Asthma Among Men

Asthma is a long term condition that affects millions of individuals in the United States, and a larger number if you include the whole world. The condition mainly characterized by wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath, which are all brought about by asthma triggers. Well-known triggers are inhaled substances. They are very popular as allergens and asthma triggers: animal dander, pollen, dust mites, etc. Besides these, there are also non-physical triggers such as stress, anxiety, and excitement.

Asthma has long held back asthmatics from participating in activities that they wanted to do. For men, who have a knack for doing strenuous activities, asthma attacks can arise while playing sports or even just by exercising. Men have big egos, though, and that ego makes them want to just tough it out. This mentality makes them refuse medications, making their asthma severity progress.
Exercise induced asthma symptoms in men also include the traditional coughing, wheezing, light-headed, extreme fatigue regardless of how light the activity was, and chest pains that asthmatics felt synonymous to having heart attacks. Some symptoms are manageable to begin with. When neglected, as most men do, these symptoms can turn into a full-blown asthma attack that can cause them future problems.

But getting diagnosed with exercise induced asthma in men is no reason to avoid this highly pleasurable and beneficial activity. By knowing all about your particular condition you will be able to gauge as to how much your overall capacity as well as the steps that you need to take every time you observe one or two of the symptoms. Also, remembering simple tips like warming up and cooling down before and after the exercise, taking your medication a few minutes prior to the activity, and putting a few breaks in between sets will help you avoid unwanted circumstances.

Exercise induced asthma in men can be controlled the same way bronchial asthma is. Visit your doctor to get some tips and tricks on how to be able to exercise without worrying about having an asthma attack. Remember, anxiety can cause asthma attacks. Your doctor may also be able to provide you extra precautionary tips so you can focus on getting back in shape.
